The Open Web Index in a nutshell

The Open Web Index (OWI) is a European open source web index pilot that is currently in Beta testing phase. The idea: Collaboratively and transparently secure safe, sovereign and open access to the internet for European organisations and civil society. The index stores well structured open web data, making it available for search applications and LLMs.

Potential use cases include applications for vertical search, argument search, detection of fake news and hate speech as well as privacy protecting custom search.

Is the OWI accessible to anyone? And how can I get access?

Why should I test the OWI?

Can the OWI be used to train LLMs?

Do you offer an API?

What kind of crawlers do you use?

What is the current readiness status and scope of the index?

What data are and aren’t included?

Which licence options do you offer?

Is there a support team or forum to help with problems?

Who is behind the web index?

Is it possible to join the project long term?
